Statistics and information on the mining industry in Moldova.

Overview

In 2024, Moldova was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. Production of mineral commodities represented only a minor part of the economy of Moldova. Mineral commodities produced in the country included cement, clay, gypsum, lime, sand and gravel, raw steel, steel products, and stone. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Moldova is provided by Subsoil Code No. 3-XVI of February 2, 2009. The Agency for Geology and Mineral Resources, operating under the Ministry of the Environment, is responsible for the regulation and control of the country’s mineral resources and for implementing state policy in geologic research, use, and protection of the subsoil. Most mineral commodities were produced by private companies with foreign capital on the territory controlled de facto by Moldova, and by state-owned companies in the breakaway region of Transnistria.
