Statistics and information on the mining industry in Montenegro.

Overview

In 2024, Montenegro was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. Production of mineral commodities represented only a minor part of the economy of Montenegro. The mining and quarrying sector contributed 1% to the country’s economy in 2023 (the latest year for which detailed data were available). Mineral commodities produced in Montenegro included aluminum, bauxite, lead, sand and gravel, raw steel, crushed and dimension stone, and zinc. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Montenegro is provided by the Law on Mining (No. 65/08 and 74/10), and the Law on Geological Explorations (No. 29/93, 27/94, 42/94, 26/07, and 28/11). The Ministry of Energy and Mining oversees the mineral sector and was responsible for developing legislation, regulating the industry, establishing energy policy, and coordinating mining and geologic projects. Most mineral commodities were produced by private domestic companies.
