Statistics and information on the mining industry in Nepal.

Overview

In 2024, Nepal was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. Production of mineral commodities contributed 0.5% to Nepal’s gross domestic product in fiscal year 2024 (mid-July 2023 through mid-July 2024). Mineral commodities produced in Nepal included cement, clay, gemstones, kyanite, stone, and talc. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Nepal is provided by Mines and Mineral Act of 1985, with an amendment in 1993; and the Mines and Mineral Rules of 1999, with amendments in 2003, 2015, and 2016. The Department of Mines and Geology oversees the mineral sector and provides mineral exploration, evaluation, and promotion of mineral industries and activities as well as the administration of rules and regulations related to minerals and mining. Most mineral commodities were produced by domestic private companies.
