Niger

In 2024, Niger’s main mineral commodity production was uranium, accounting for about 1.6% of total global production. Production of cement, coal, gold, gypsum, limestone, and uranium contributed significantly to the country’s economy; in 2022, the latest year for which information was available, these commodities represented about 7% of Niger’s gross domestic product. 

The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Niger is provided by the Mining Code of March 2, 1993, as amended by law No. 2006–26 of August 9, 2006, and revised in 2019. The Ministry of Mines and its General Directorate of Geology and Mining Cadaster (DGGCM) oversee the mineral sector and administer mining permits and titles. Most mineral commodities were produced by a mix of private domestic companies and joint ventures involving the Government and foreign partners. Niger did not export any uranium in 2024 owing to the state of the conflict in the country during that year.
