Statistics and information on the mining industry in North Macedonia.

Overview

In 2024, North Macedonia was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. The production of mineral commodities represented only a minor part of the country’s economy. Mineral commodities produced in North Macedonia included cement, clay (bentonite), copper, feldspar, ferroalloys, gold, lead, pumice, silver, raw steel, and zinc. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in North Macedonia is provided by the Law on Mineral Resources No. 136/12 (editorially modified in 2024 and 2025), and its amendments, Nos. 25/13, 93/13, 44/14, 160/14, 129/15, 192/15, 39/16, 53/16, 120/16, 189/16, 7/19, 129/23, 147/24. The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources issues permits for the exploration and exploitation of mineral resources and regulates the mining sector. Most mineral commodities were produced by private companies under foreign ownership.
