Statistics and information on the mining industry in Slovenia.

Overview

In 2024, Slovenia was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. The gross value added by the manufacturing, construction, and mining and quarrying sectors contributed 19.4%, 5.9%, and 0.3%, respectively, to the country’s gross domestic product. Mineral commodities produced in Slovenia included aluminum, cement, clays, lead (secondary), lime, pumice, salt, sand and gravel, raw steel and steel products, and stone. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in Slovenia is provided by the Mining Act, No. 61/2010, last amended in 2024. The Unit for Mining within the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning oversees the mineral sector and is responsible for issuing mining rights and exploration permits, developing mining legislation, and conducting various administrative, expert, and supervisory tasks related to the country’s mineral management. Most mineral commodities were produced by domestic private companies aside from a few companies partially owned by the Government.
