The Solomon Islands

In 2024, the Solomon Islands was not a globally significant producer of mineral commodities. Production of minerals and metals represented only a minor part of the economy of the country. Mineral commodities produced in the Solomon Islands included gold, nickel, and silver. The legislative framework for the mineral sector in the Solomon Islands is provided by the Mines and Minerals Act 1990 (Amendments in 1996, 2008, and 2014). The Ministry of Mines, Energy, and Rural Electrification (MME&RE) surveys the country’s geology and oversees mineral, water, and energy resources; the Mines and Minerals Board reviews prospecting licenses and mining leases before being issued by the MME&RE. Most mineral commodities were produced by foreign public companies.
