Geospatial Applications at New Jersey Water Science Center
The New Jersey Water Science Center (NJWSC) leverages geospatial data to interpret and communicate U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) science to cooperators and the public. Several NJWSC-developed products and New Jersey/USGS datasets are linked below.
The NJWSC’s geospatial work includes the application of spatial information, analyses, and tools to advance earth and environmental science throughout New Jersey and beyond. Scientists develop web-based tools and other geospatial products that help communicate scientific findings, meet cooperator needs, and inform the public.
This geospatial work includes tracking contaminants through watersheds, mapping findings for clearer understanding, developing full-featured database applications and limited-scope data visualizations, producing digital cartography, managing and analyzing data, and creating decision-support tools. NJWSC scientists also publish geospatial datasets and use expertise in cartography and web technologies to support USGS and cooperator science.
NJWSC-Developed Products:
Several interactive maps and tools supporting stakeholders and communicating USGS science are linked below.
Groundwater Resources of the New Jersey Coastal Plain
PFAS in surface waters of the nontidal Passaic River Basin
New Jersey's Coastal Scenario Mapper and Flood Decision Tool
New Jersey and USGS Data:
New Jersey and broader USGS datasets are often used by scientists to support or conduct research. Several state and national data resources are linked below.
