eDNAoccupancy eDNAoccupancy
This repository contains the source code and package for the eDNAoccupancy package. This readme file contains the installation instructions for the package. The purpose of the R package is to fit three-level occupancy models. Although designed with eDNA-based observations, the package can be used for any occupancy situation with sampling and sub-sampling.
Cumulative spring discharge and survey effort influence threatened Suwannee moccasinshell, Medionidus walkeri, occupancy and detection Cumulative spring discharge and survey effort influence threatened Suwannee moccasinshell, Medionidus walkeri, occupancy and detection
Freshwater mussels (Unionidae) are among the most imperiled groups of organisms in the world. Unionids are plagued with a lack of basic information regarding species distributions, life history characteristics, and ecological and biological requirements. We assessed the influence of hydrologic factors on the occurrence of the Suwannee Moccasinshell, Medionidus walkeri, a federally...
Will fluctuations in salt marsh - mangrove dominance alter vulnerability of a subtropical wetland to sea-level rise? Will fluctuations in salt marsh - mangrove dominance alter vulnerability of a subtropical wetland to sea-level rise?
To avoid submergence during sea-level rise, coastal wetlands build soil surfaces vertically through accumulation of inorganic sediment and organic matter. At climatic boundaries where mangroves are expanding and replacing salt marsh, wetland capacity to respond to sea-level rise may change. To compare how well mangroves and salt marshes accommodate sea-level rise, we conducted a...
Channel Armor Gap Crevasse (MR-06): 2016 Land-Water Classification Channel Armor Gap Crevasse (MR-06): 2016 Land-Water Classification
The Louisiana State Legislature created Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed persuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to...
Meristic and morphometric data for "Revision of the jawfish genus Lonchopisthus with description of a new Atlantic species (Teleostei: Opistognathidae)" Meristic and morphometric data for "Revision of the jawfish genus Lonchopisthus with description of a new Atlantic species (Teleostei: Opistognathidae)"
Synonymies, diagnoses, descriptions, illustrations, an identification key and meristic frequency tables are provided for all species of Lonchopisthus. Most of the skeletal anatomy of L. higmani is also illustrated. A new jawfish, Lonchopisthus ancistrus n. sp., is described from the Gulf of Mexico and off Honduras based on 21 specimens 41‒89 mm standard length (SL). It differs from other...
Trophic structure of mesopelagic fishes in the Gulf of Mexico revealed by gut content and stable isotope analyses Trophic structure of mesopelagic fishes in the Gulf of Mexico revealed by gut content and stable isotope analyses
Mesopelagic fishes represent an important component of the marine food web due to their global distributions, high abundances and ability to transport organic material throughout a large part of the water column. This study combined stable isotope (SIA) and gut content analyses (GCA) to characterize the trophic structure of mesopelagic fishes in the north central Gulf of Mexico...
Osmoregulatory capacity and muscle water control facing salinity stress of the Amazon fish Astronotus ocellatus (Cichlidae) Osmoregulatory capacity and muscle water control facing salinity stress of the Amazon fish Astronotus ocellatus (Cichlidae)
Scientific tools such as physiological analysis are fundamental to understand invasive species tolerances and responses to different environmental conditions. The Amazon fish Astronotus ocellatus, popularly known as oscar, was introduced worldwide and became invasive in many places. Specimens of A. ocellatus were abruptly submitted to salt stress of 14 and 20 ppt, for 3 and 8 hours to...
Soil, geomorphology and pre-European settlement vegetation associations of Southwest Louisiana Soil, geomorphology and pre-European settlement vegetation associations of Southwest Louisiana
Defining the pre-European range of vegetation communities can enhance our understanding of the role soil, hydrology, and climate had on climax plant communities within southwest Louisiana. Coastal prairie grasslands were in a perpetual state of succession due to two primary disturbances; grazing, primarily by bison and other ungulates, and fires ignited by lightning and Native Americans...
Video observations of raccoon (Procyon loctor) predation on the invasive Maculata apple snail (Pomacea maculata) in south Louisiana, USA - 2017 Video observations of raccoon (Procyon loctor) predation on the invasive Maculata apple snail (Pomacea maculata) in south Louisiana, USA - 2017
AVI files documenting raccoon (Procyon lotor) foraging for apple snails (Pomacea maculata) on a water hyacinth mat at Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge. Videos were taken with various models of Moultrie camera traps between January and March 2017.
Grassland quality and pollinator habitat potential in Southwest Louisiana Grassland quality and pollinator habitat potential in Southwest Louisiana
Potential pollinator habitat was derived by ranking land use classifications and grassland quality based on ground truthing and remotely sensed features indicative of remnant prairie. High resolution (10m) land use data served as the basemap (Hartley et al 2017) from which most categories were identified. All known prairie remnants, prairie plantings, and clusters of mima mounds were...
High resolution landcover for the Western Gulf Coastal Plain of Louisiana High resolution landcover for the Western Gulf Coastal Plain of Louisiana
The dataset includes Land Use/Land Cover types throughout the Chenier Eco-Region in Southwest Louisiana. Using the 2015 NAIP dataset (1m) as the basemap, E-Cognition image objects were derived from the multiresolution segmentation algorithm at 75 and 250 segments. Attempts to refine the data training methods using E-cognition, to extrapolate automating categories of this information to...
Data for Gulf Coast Vulnerability Assessment Data for Gulf Coast Vulnerability Assessment
This USGS Data Release represents geospatial and tabular data for the Gulf Coast Vulnerability Assessment Project. The data release was produced in compliance with the new 'open data' requirements as way to make the scientific products associated with USGS research efforts and publications available to the public. The dataset consists of 2 separate items: 1. Vulnerability assessment data...
