Due to a lapse in appropriations, the majority of USGS websites may not be up to date and may not reflect current conditions. Websites displaying real-time data, such as Earthquake and Water and information needed for public health and safety will be updated with limited support. Additionally, USGS will not be able to respond to inquiries until appropriations are enacted. For more information, please see www.doi.gov/shutdown
National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program
NGGDPP promotes preservation and accessibility to geoscientific data, information and samples by providing financial and technical support to state geological surveys and U.S. Department of the Interior bureaus. The Program's National Digital Catalog provides public access to collections of documents, datasets, photographs, samples, and other geologic materials available for research.
The National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP) was created in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to promote the preservation, archiving, and availability of geologic, geophysical, and engineering data, maps, well logs, and samples for research.
