Anti-Biofouling Strategies for Solid Phase Adsorption Toxin Tracking (SPATT) in Two New York Lakes and a Tennessee Wetland in 2024
This data release contains analytical results from an experiment examining biofouling of solid phase adsorption toxin tracking (SPATT) samplers deployed between July and September 2024 in two lakes in Central Park (The Lake and Turtle Pond) in New York City, New York, and at an urban wetland in Nashville, Tennessee (Tennessee State University [TSU] wetland). At each site, SPATT samplers were deployed under different conditions (sun and shade) and with or without a mechanical biofouling deterrent (105-micrometer copper mesh). The release includes cyanotoxin concentrations measured in SPATT extract (from the adsorbent resin) and SPATT biofilm (material scraped from the sampler surface), determined by liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS and LC-MS). It also includes phytoplankton identification and enumeration data from ambient (native) water and from SPATT biofilm.
