Catch of larval Grass Carp in light traps and intensity of light from light sticks

October 20, 2026

Reproducing Grass Carp populations are not desired in many natural environments in the United States. Determining if reproduction is occurring, and linking reproduction to adult fish, requires capturing larval Grass Carp. A 4x4 Latin-square design was used to assess efficacy of four different light colors at capturing larval Grass Carp in quatrefoil light traps. The experiments were conducted in two ponds of different turbidity levels and replicated 10 times. Following experiments, intensity levels of the four light colors were assessed in several ponds over a range of turbidities that covered the range of turbidities during experiments. Three data tables are provided: catch of larval Grass Carp and several independent variables; data from light intensity trials; and water temperatures monitored throughout the time larval Grass Carp were in ponds.
