Data acquired in experiments on bioelectrochemical systems for critical mineral recovery
September 17, 2026
A novel approach for critical mineral recovery from complex aqueous sources is a bioelectrochemical system (BES). In a BES, reductive precipitation of a critical mineral is catalyzed by the bacterium Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 using an electrode as the sole electron source through direct bacterial extracellular electron transport in laboratory experiments. In this study, the abiotic and biotic reactivity, removal, and recovery of arsenic (As), antimony (Sb), uranium (U), vanadium (V), and chromium (Cr) in parallel BES experiments were compared. The data associated with the experimental study are presented in this data release.
