Geochronologic data for past lake levels of pluvial Lake Estancia, New Mexico during millennial-scale hydrologic changes of the last glacial transition
November 3, 2026
Pluvial Lake Estancia, New Mexico, preserves a highly resolved record of late Pleistocene hydrologic variability in the Southwest, yet the areal extent of its successive highstands has remained poorly constrained due to sparse shoreline geochronology. We present 16 new radiocarbon and 5 optically stimulated luminescence ages from four localities along the northern and northwestern basin margins to reconstruct shoreline elevation and chronology between ~19 and 16 ka. These results refine correlations with the nearby records and support synchronous, abrupt hydroclimatic responses to North Atlantic-forced climate perturbations across the Southwest during the last glacial maximum and glacial termination.
