Geospatial data, precipitation-runoff model archive, and surface-water model archive for streamflow extents of Carson Slough, Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, Nevada
This U.S. Geological Survey data release presents flood-inundation extents and hydraulic characteristics of the Carson Slough, Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, Nevada. These datasets were created by simulating streamflow conditions for eight rainfall scenarios (100-, 50-, 25-, 10-year floods under 6- and 24-hour rainfall durations), under three terrain conditions (2023, peak-flow breach expansion, and possible dam modification conditions). Rainfall was simulated for the eight scenarios with a precipitation-runoff model, which informed a two-dimensional (2D) hydraulic model of the streamflow conditions based on terrain. Files for both models and their inputs are also presented. The data release includes: 1) a polygon dataset of the flood-inundation extents (CarsonSlough_FloodInundation.zip); 2) raster datasets of streamflow depth (CarsonSlough_Depth.zip); 3) raster datasets of streamflow velocity (CarsonSlough_Velocity.zip); 4) all relevant files to document and run the 2D Hydrological Engineering Center-River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) hydraulic model used to generate the flood-inundation extents and hydraulic characteristic rasters (CarsonSlough_SW_model_Archive.zip); 5) all relevant files to document and run the precipitation-runoff model used as input into the hydraulic model (Precip_Runoff_Model_Archive.zip); 6) a tabular dataset of water-surface elevation and streamflow data collected at U.S. Geological Survey streamgage 362901116184801 Amargosa Flat Wash above Carson Slough near Ash Meadows, NV (362901116184801.Streamgage.csv) 7) a digital elevation model of the study area (CarsonSlough_DEM.tif) derived from a 2008 lidar survey; 8) a polygon dataset of terrain modifications used with CarsonSlough_DEM to model possible restoration conditions (CarsonSlough_Modifications.shp); and 9) a point dataset of survey points (Survey_Data.shp) collected February 27- 28, 2023, and November 23, 2023, using real-time kinematic global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and static GNSS.
