Luminescence Data Collected for San Juan River Sediment Geochemical Studies 2023-2024
This Data Release summarizes the dating results from sedimentary deposits sampled by the USGS Geologic Hazards Team and analyzed at the USGS Luminescence Geochronology Laboratory. During field seasons 2023 and 2024, these samples were collected as part of the Abandoned Mine Lands Task of the Intermountain West Geologic Framework project, in collaboration with the Navajo Nation and USGS New Mexico Water Science Center. 15 samples were collected to provide chronologic and geomorphic context for regional geochemical sampling and sediment chemistry studies for the San Juan and Animas Rivers. Ages generally range from 20-250 ka, providing information for middle to late Pleistocene geomorphology and evolution of the river systems and sources of potential detrital contamination.
