Metal concentrations measured in sediment and biota samples collected in the lower Panther Creek watershed (Idaho) in 2023 and 2024 to study the interactive effects of historical mining and wildfire on linked stream-riparian food webs

July 2, 2026

Metal concentrations were measured in samples collected in September 2023 and June 2024 at sites located in the lower Panther Creek watershed (Idaho) where historical mine wastes are present. In addition to legacy mining, the study area encompasses the Leesburg and Mackinaw Mining Districts, which were impacted by the 2022 Moose Fire. Samples included periphyton, seston, aquatic insect larvae, adult insects, spiders, terrestrial vegetation, and stream sediment. Data are presented in six tables as comma-separated values (.CSV) files: T1_BIOTA contains aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, cobalt, chromium, copper, iron, manganese, nickel, lead, and zinc concentrations measured in biota and vegetation. T2_SP contains aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, cobalt, chromium, copper, iron, manganese, nickel, lead, and zinc concentrations measured in spiders. T3_SED contains aluminum, arsenic, cadmium, cobalt, chromium, copper, iron, manganese, nickel, lead, and zinc concentrations measured in sediment. T4_QAQC contains data collected for quality assurance and quality control (QAQC) including certified reference materials (CRM), matrix spikes (MS), external check standard solutions (eQC), and procedural blanks (PBLK). T5_MDL contains method detection limits (MDL) of the ICPOES and ICPMS. T6_SP_MK contains arsenic, cadmium, cobalt, copper, nickel, lead, and zinc concentrations measured in spiders used to evaluate metal elimination kinetics.
