Soil and groundwater concentrations of PFAS, soil properties, and derived soil-water distribution coefficients for sites in Maine
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) derived soil-water distribution coefficients (Kd values) from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) analytical chemistry data and soil properties based on soil and groundwater samples collected by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection between 2019 and 2024. Samples were collected at agricultural biosolid application sites in Maine. At selected sites, vertical profiles of soil PFAS concentrations were collected and analyzed using the synthetic precipitation leaching procedure (SPLP). Soil testing parameters including grain size distribution, carbon content, cation exchange capacity, and nutrient concentrations were also collected. USGS used these data to compute Kd values for different PFAS compounds. This data release documents the coefficient computations as well as the supporting chemistry and parameter results.
