Spatial Hydro-Ecological Decision System Summarized Designing Sustainable Landscapes and National Land Cover Database 2001 - 2016 Data for SHEDS Region 2

This data release is a summarization of the US Geological Survey National Land Cover Database (NLCD) 2001, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2016 Land Cover datasets and the Landscape Ecology Lab at the University of Massachusetts Designing Sustainable Landscapes (DSL) datasets within the USGS Spatial Hydro-Ecological Decision System (SHEDS) framework. The output is a series of tables consisting of the summarized values of continuous variables and discrete variables, respectively, for each local SHEDS catchment within the SHEDS Hydro-Region 2 for both datasets. An additional output are tables of the continuous and discrete variables individually processed through an upstream accumulation method for each catchment in SHEDS Region 2. This upstream accumulation method takes the local and upstream catchment values for a particular catchment, individually weighs them by the ratio of their respective catchment area to the total local and upstream catchment area, then sums all weighted values. The continuous variable tables for the local catchment summarizations of the DSL data contain the mean of each variable within each SHEDS catchment. The NLCD data did not contain any continuous variables. The discrete variable tables for the local catchment summarizations of the NLCD and DSL data contain the total coverage of each variable in square meters within each local SHEDS catchment. The upstream accumulated tables for the continuous and discrete variables for both NLCD and DSL data are their respective local summarizations processed through the upstream accumulated method detailed above. All these tables contain the unique identifier (FeatureID) of the SHEDS catchments acting as the zone of summarization, and the summarized variables for the catchments. Additionally, the percent of each catchment that contained data for each variable being summarized and the area of that SHEDS catchment in square kilometers was included for the local catchment summarization tables. These were not included for the upstream accumulation summarization tables as these values were not calculated within the SHEDS framework.
