Temperature, soil property, and floodplain infiltration data from a restored reach of Underwood Creek, WI, 2018-2021

March 5, 2025
This release contains data collected to study surface-groundwater interactions during flood events in the floodplain of a restored reach of Underwood Creek in Wauwatosa, WI. Continuous floodplain sediment temperature data was collected at 6 sites from May 2018 to October 2021. Temperature data was used in conjunction with soil thermal property measurements and published groundwater levels to estimate floodwater infiltration into the floodplain during select flood events using 1DTempPro V2 software. Sediment texture data was collected from 77 cores across the restored floodplain. Infiltration rate estimates were collected using double ring infiltrometers at 7 locations in July 2019. Details about these data sets including information about collection methods and data quality are available in four child items (1) Floodplain sediment temperature profile data collected from temperature rods in a restored reach of Underwood Creek, Wisconsin 2018-2021, (2) Archived 1DTempPro model used to simulate floodplain infiltration in a restored reach of Underwood Creek, Wisconsin, during select 2018-2021 flood events (3) Soil core data from the floodplain of a restored reach of Underwood Creek, Wisconsin, and (4) Double ring infiltrometer data from a restored reach of Underwood Creek, Wisconsin, 2019.
