Costa's hummingbird on Cape honeysuckle

Detailed Description

Seeing a hummingbird enjoying your garden can be an exhilarating and special experience. Many hummingbirds are attracted by tube flowers and bright colors, such as those on this Cape honeysuckle (Tecomaria capensis), which is native to southern Africa. A plant showing similar flower characteristics and native to eastern North America is trumpet creeper (Campsis radicans). Adding native nectar plants in your garden is one way to entice hummingbirds and other pollinators. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has a list of native plants to help you identify the native nectar plants in your area.
