Streamgage at the Elizabeth Mine Site in Stratford, Vermont
Detailed Description
Elizabeth Mine was added to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Superfund Program’s National Priority List in 2001. Since then, EPA and USGS have cooperated to investigate the nature and extent of contamination from weathering of waste rock rich in metals and sulfides. This streamgage was installed in 2024 to better understand the water inputs and outputs of the passive treatment system that is meant to lower iron concentrations in effluent from the site into local waterways.
