Kilauea Message 2026-06-26 09:46:19 HST
Episode 50 precursory activity increased at ~8:50 AM on June 26 with small lava flows from north vent and increased spattering and gas jetting. Kīlauea alert levels raised to WATCH/ORANGE. Fountaining will likely start today.

Episode 49 ended at 5:05 p.m. HST after 7.5 hours of fountaining. The north vent fountain dropped rapidly from 200-300 hundred feet (60-90 m) just after 5 p.m. and then began jetting tephra in bursts for the last 2-3 minutes.

The north vent fountain has dropped to about 300 feet (90 m) and continues to feed a lava flow on the south and east sides of Halemaʻumaʻu. Winds are variable but field crews found no significant ash fall on the north side of the summit.

The north vent fountain has dropped to about 400 feet (120 m) high and is feeding a flow along the south side of Halemaʻumaʻu crater. Summit tilt at UWD has dropped over 10 microradians and produced over 4 million cubic yards of lava.

The precursory overflow that began from the north vent at 5:59 am HST stopped at 7:04 am HST as lava drained back into the vent. The summit deflation that accompanied this small eruption stopped with the end of the overflow.
