The have been over 40 precursory overflows from the south vent this morning since 3 a.m. HST. Tremor and tilt both remain constant, typical of precursory activity. A small stream of lava can be seen on the backwall of the north vent.

There have been more than 10 overflows from the south vent so far and they are increasing in frequency but decreasing in duration. Tilt is currently flat around the summit and tremor remains constant.

An overflow from the south vent began at 2:57 a.m. HST this morning, the first in advance of an expected lava fountaining episode 47 at Kīlauea summit. Further dome fountains and overflows are likely to precede the onset of fountaining.

As darkness falls over Halemaʻumaʻu this evening, V1cam is providing views of periodic north vent spattering. This indicates that lava is close to the surface, and that fountaining episode 47 may be nearing.

HVO has lowered the Volcano Alert Level for Kīlauea from WATCH to ADVISORY, and the Aviation Color Code from ORANGE to YELLOW, following the end of episode 46 lava fountaining.

North vent fountains are currently around 330 ft (100 m) high. South vent is inactive. Minor tephra fall continues around summit. Fine ash and Pele's hair have been reported in Mountain View as the high level plume moves northeastward.

Episode 46 has reached its peak effusion rate and is unlikely to generate taller lava fountains from this point onwards. North vent fountains are reaching 650 ft (200 m). South vent fountains are small and intermittent.
