Since 2001,  GloVis has provided users access to remote sensing data including Landsat satellites. Over two decades later, this vital tool continues to ensure satellite imagery is publicly accessible. With easy-to-use navigation tools, users can instantly view and download scenes. 

“Landsat Collection 2 is available, including Landsat 9,” said USGS Data Management and Information Delivery Project Manager Ryan Longhenry. “A new capability adds for co-discovery across OLI/TIRS, ETM, TM, and MSS in an integrated visual timeline.” 

Collection 2 data has joined the other available data sets for the viewer. Collection 2 contains Level-1 data from Landsat 1-9. Collection 1 continues to be available until retirement on December 31, 2022. All data from GloVis are publicly available in the public domain. 

“New Landsat scenes are available in GloVis as soon as they’re available in EarthExplorer and Machine-to-Machine portals,” shared Longhenry. “This has eliminated latency experienced with the previous versions of GloVis.”

This release adds several other improvements to the GloVis Interface including:

• Adding base map options, matching those available in EarthExplorer (Leaflet, OpenStreetMap, ESRI World Imagery, The National Map, USA Topographic)
• Adding Scene List ‘export’ options, matching those available in EarthExplorer (GeoJSON, KMZ (with browse), KMZ (no browse), Comma Delimited, Pipe Delimited, Comma Separated Value (CSV), Shapefile, FGDC)
• Changing Interface Controls panel along the left side of the map manages customization of the display:
  • Data sets added to the data set list, then activate or deactivate data sets in the Selected Data Set Lists
  • Data Set specific metadata filters are available in a panel below the Geographic Filters rather than each data set's row (common filters such as date and cloud cover are still available in their own panel and apply to all active data sets)
  • Timeline and Scene Navigator are pop-outs activated and deactivated from the Interface Controls panel
  • User Preferences are available from the top of the Interface Controls panel
• Adding Cloud Cover filter is a slider bar

Other minor changes may affect how some GloVis features are utilized. Users are encouraged to review the Release Notes for more details and take the "Tour" to become familiar with new features.
