Aedes albopictus mosquito

Detailed Description

This image depicts a close-up, left posterior-oblique view of an Aedes albopictus mosquito, which had landed on the photographer, and was pictured, as she was in the process of ingesting her blood meal through the host’s skin surface. Note how her abdomen had taken on a red color, due to its growing contents of host blood. Under successful experimental transmission, A. albopictus has been found to be a vector of West Nile Virus.
