Along Park Boulevard

Detailed Description

Granitic rock outcrops along Park Avenue located 3 miles east of the West Entrance Station to Joshua Tree National Park. The general term "granitic rocks" refers to intrusive igneous rocks with a range of composition and texture, including granite, granodiorite, monzonite, diorite, and tonalite (Best, 1982). The granitic rocks in the park commonly have a coarse, granular fabric consisting of a mix of feldspar, quartz, mica, hornblende, and other minerals that crystallized from the cooling of magma deep in the subsurface.
