Detailed Description

Prickly pear cactus grows around the natural entrance to Carlsbad Caverns. The entrance to the cavern is in the Tansill Formation, part of the Carlsbad Group of formations that make the Permian Reef Complex exposed throughout the Guadalupe Mountains region of New Mexico and Texas (Hayes, 1957).
