Chaco Culture - Pueblo del Arroyo
Detailed Description
Pueblo del Arroyo. An abundance of wood was needed in the construction of the great houses and dwellings at Chaco Canyon. Today the closest source of wood similar to the logs used in the construction at Chaco is about 60 miles (75-100 km) away. Evaluation of the wood used in construction suggests that the logs were cut, debarked, and sanded before they were transported into Chaco Canyon from distant locations including the Chuska Mountains and Mount Taylor regions (English and others, 2001).
