Close-up of globemallow (Sphaeralcea ambigua) flowers after a fire in desert tortoise habitat. This short-lived plant (~5-10 years) sometimes increases dramatically after fire and can be important as food and cover for desert tortoises when the habitats burn many of the other cover plants species regularly used by tortoises in the Mojave Desert.
