Coal Spill in the Roanoke River
Detailed Description
On October 30, 2020, a train derailment occurred over the Roanoke River, west of the City of Salem, Virginia and upstream of the Roanoke River at Salem monitoring site. Approximately 2,600 tons of coal ended up in the Roanoke River. This monitoring site was able to capture data on the impacts of the coal spill on water quality.
