Collecting sediment in a backwater of the Manistique River and Harbor Area of Concern (AOC) on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Aquatic insects accumulate contaminants like PCBs in their tissues as larvae, then transfer them to predators such as spiders when the emerge from the water.
