Colorado National Monument - Redlands Fault

Detailed Description

This view shows the escarpment associated with the Redlands Fault between the East (Grand Junction) Entrance and the West (Fruita) Entrance to Colorado National Monument. The dark lower cliffs are Proterozoic metamorphic rocks exposed along the fault scarp. The light-colored upper cliffs are the Triassic- and Jurassic-age sedimentary formations that crop out throughout the park. This view was taken near a public trailhead along Wildrose Drive on the north side of the National Monument.
