Demonstration of multibeam echosounder technology, Knik River near Palmer, Alaska

Detailed Description

Mike Knapp, hydraulic engineer with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (far right) introduces USGS hydrologist Taylor Dudunake (back to camera) for a demonstration of multibeam echosounder technology on the Knik River near Palmer, Alaska, July 27, 2023. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities and others are interested in applying multibeam echosounder technology and bathymetric mapping techniques to monitor for bridge scour at sites throughout Alaska. Dudunake and other hydrologists with the USGS Idaho Water Science Center have extensive experience in bathymetric mapping with multibeam echosounders. The USGS Alaska Science Center invited Dudunake to share his knowledge with their Alaska state partners.
