Giant Geyser

Detailed Description

Giant Geyser produces some of the largest geyser eruptions in Yellowstone National Park. It is located in the Upper Geyser Basin. Most park visitors never witness the eruption of Giant Geyser. Currently, the frequency of eruption is between 6 to 14 days or more, with the steam eruption lasting about one hour. It is one of the largest and more powerful geysers in the park (Schreier, 2005). The geyser cone is about 12 feet high.

Today, thermal features are more protected because of the millions of people that visit the park each year. If a Ranger saw folks doing what these people were doing about a hundred years ago, they could possibly receive a fine!
