Graduate students electrofishing on Deer Creek, Nebraska
Detailed Description
Graduate students at the Nebraska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit are electrofishing on Deer Creek, Nebraska. Fish in prairies and rivers are influenced by processes that happen in their habitats. When river habitats are damaged, it can disrupt processes like fish movement. This research is led by USGS researchers at the Nebraska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, in partnership with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. It will help identify areas where the fish species we’re interested in are likely to be found. The findings could also support the Nebraska Conservation and Environmental Review Tool (CERT), which is used to evaluate potential impacts on areas where these at-risk fish species live when planning new projects. This study will set the stage for future work assessing fish-habitat relations by identifying locations most likely to contain species of interest
