Grinnell, Gem & Salamander Glaciers in 1910 and 2016
Detailed Description
Grinnell, Gem & Salamander Glaciers: 8/9/1910 M Elrod, U of M Library – 9/27/2016 L McKeon, USGS
During the timespan between photos, Upper Grinnell Lake formed as Grinnell Glacier melted. Gem Glacier, the small glacier in the saddle along the crest of the peaks, has lost some height (volume) despite retaining a similar area. Salamander Glacier, along the right side of the photo, has been fragmented from Grinnell Glacier and is now a separate glacier.
