Hawaii Volcanoes - a tongue of lava
Detailed Description
A tongue of lava pours from the base of an active flow. The surface crust of the flows start forming within moments of exposure to the relatively cool air. The molten lava that forms the pa'hoe'hoe flows on Kilauea volcano is about 1,160 degrees Celsius (2,120 degrees Fahrenheit)(USGS, 2002).
