Kīlauea lower East Rift Zone
Detailed Description
The August 6 morning overflight of Kīlauea's lower East Rift Zone showed no visible supply of lava into the channel from fissure 8, and a weak to moderately active pond of lava bubbling in the cone. The perched channel and braided sections were all crusted with tiny bits of incandescence in cracks, and the first substantial area of active lava was just west of Kapoho crater.
