Kalmunai, Sri Lanka, after the December 2004 tsunami

The December 26th, 2004 magnitude 9.1 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake, in the Indian Ocean, triggered a massive tsunami that caused massive damage on Sri Lanka and other island nations in the Indian Ocean. Here in Kalmunai, which is located on the eastern coast of Sri Lanka, tsunami scientists noted that nearly all the buildings within 500 meters of the coast were destroyed.
