Katydid

Human settlement certainly disrupts wildlife, but the smaller and more adaptable members of a disturbed ecosystem tend to remain, coloring urban landscapes as reminders of the wild from which we came. This handsome katydid stood sentinel for more than an hour over throngs of Saturday shoppers in downtown Sioux Falls, SD on August 10, 2019, perched atop the word "Fargo" on a wayfinder signaling the direction to other major cities.
