Lake Mead - a view along Highway 165 in the Eldorado Mountains
Detailed Description
This view is along Highway 165 in the Eldorado Mountains near the town site of Nelson, Nevada. The mountains consist of eroded remnants of late Tertiary igneous rocks (intrusions, stocks, dikes, flows, tuffs, and ash beds) and alluvial sedimentary deposits (Beard and others, 2007). The massive layers of volcanic rock and sedimentary material gently dip to the east toward the Colorado River Valley.
