Lake Mead - Gregg Basin

Detailed Description

This view of Lake Mead from the South Cove Picnic Area shows the reservoir's "bathtub ring" left behind by higher water levels in years past. This section of the lake is called Gregg Basin and lies between the South Virgin Mountains of Nevada and Grapevine Mesa of Arizona. Gregg Basin is a broad section of the Colorado River Valley between Iceberg Canyon (upstream) and Virgin Canyon (downstream). Both canyons are now flooded by the reservoir.
