Lake Mead - outcrops of Aztec Sandstone

Outcrops of Aztec Sandstone near the Redstone picnic and hiking area along the Northshore Road near milepost 27. The dark mountain in the distance is part of the Cleopatra Volcano area, a Middle-to-Late Miocene-age volcanic center at the north end of the Black Mountains (on the north shore of Lake Mead) (Beard and others, 2007).
