Lake Mead - teddybear chollas

Detailed Description

Teddybear chollas or jumping chollas (Opuntia bigelovii) grow in abundance in the 1,000 to 2,000 feet elevation range in the 1,000 to 2,000 feet range in the Eldorado Mountains west of Lake Mohave near Cottonwood Cove (USDA, [2010b]). This zoomed-in, south-facing view is from Nevada Highway 164 in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Spirit Mountain in the Newberry Mountains is in the distance.
