Landsat 5 MSS Image of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula
Detailed Description
This image of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula was captured by the Multispectral Scanner (MSS) instrument onboard the Landsat 5 satellite on January 7, 2013.
The MSS instrument captured data from 1984 to 1999. The Thematic Mapper (TM) instrument continued to collect data until its failure in 2011. The MSS instrument was then turned back on in a test mode to see if imagery could again be acquired – and from June 2012 to January 2013, MSS added another 15,000 Level-1 scenes to the USGS Landsat archive. Like all other Landsat products, these scenes are available to download from EarthExplorer. This January 7th image is the last one added to the Landsat 1-5 MSS EarthExplorer dataset.
