Lava delta collapse triggers explosion and scalding wave, Kīlauea

2000 (approx.)

Detailed Description

Collapse of an active lava delta may trigger an explosion of lava fragments and send hot waves onshore. After the collapse, note the former sea cliff remains "hidden" from view by the remaining part of the delta. This makes it difficult to determine the location of the former sea cliff, behind which is the area most safe from additional delta collapse.
