Mesa Verde - Cliff Canyon

This view is looking south down Cliff Canyon from near the Sun Temple. The view shows the classic V-shape of an erosional canyon. The Lower and Upper Cliff House Sandstone forms the canyon rim and the cap rock of the mesa. The older Menefee Sandstone and Point Lookout Sandstone are covered in talus and vegetation beneath the lower slopes of the canyon (NPS, 2006).
