Motus Wildlife Tracking System on Santa Catalina Island on Feltcher Peak

June 2026 (approx.)

Detailed Description

USGS scientists install a remote Motus Wildlife Tracking System on Santa Catalina Island off southern California. Motus is an international collaborative network that uses coordinated, automated radio‐telemetry stations to study movements of small flying organisms, including landbirds and bats. The Motus network has rapidly expanded throughout the western U.S., increasing our ability to spatially evaluate migration, stopover timing, and habitat/population connectivity. The species-specific nature of Motus tracking allows resource managers to focus on species of State or National concern.
