Ostrich Egg (Struthio camelus)

A hollowed out ostrich egg sold as a home decoration or tourist souvenior in southern Africa. This particular egg was on displayed in a basket of hollowed ostrich eggs in the restaurant of a hotel. The hole is made in the egg to extract the yolk and other fluids while leaving the shell intact. The shell is 3 to 4 mm thick and if tapped sounds like a piece of ceramic pottery.
